Ever wonder what your Young Life leaders do when we all get together and hangout for a weekend?

We stayed in a cabin in the backwoods of Missouri. And yes, it does fit all 50 plus of us leaders and committee members!

Thank You.

Thank you to every leader, staff member, and committee member for constantly putting yourselves second.

Thank you that despite the fact that you might have kids of your own, with a family of your own, you treat every high school and middle school student as if they were your own.

Thank you for investing in high school and middle school kids' lives and making sure they remember one, simple, yet monumental thing, that they are loved and that they are valued.

Name: Sarah DeGarmo
Position: Savannah Young Life Leader

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Learning to Love
God calls us to love -- a seemingly simple command, yet a very complex noun. Every day of my life I am learning to love and while I will never master this simple truth, I am comforted and honored to serve the God who has.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Telekinese. (Arguably, all other superpowers could be mastered with this one.)

What has been your favorite thing about being a Young Life Leader?
Watching the grace of God transform kids, leaders, and families through a community of laughter and love.

If you were stranded on an island and could only have three things with you, what would they be and why did you pick those things?
Satellite Phone (The first thing I'd do is call someone to come get me.)
Knife (Hunt and defend.)
Hammock (Rest and relaxation.)
Basically, I'm hoping that the knife and hammock could sustain me until my recovery team finds me.

If you were two animals combined, what would they be?
Cheetah (Running as fast as a car on the highway --- count me in!)
Eagle (The views! I'd love to fly...)

Shark diving, bungee jumping,  or skydiving?
Shark diving. I hate free-falling so much that yes, I'd rather swim in shark infested waters. (Yikes!)

What would be the title of your bibliography?

Risk It for the Biscuit
Just because its a fun saying and I would like to live life this way, but easier said than done!

If you could have any food right now, what would it be?
Chipotle.

What has been your favorite thing about being a Young Life Leader?
Building strong friendships with many different kids and leaders and the adventure we get to go on.

If you could eat with anyone (past or present) who would it be and where would you go?
Jordy Nelson from the Green Bay Packers, any place with a good cheeseburger!

River, Lake or Ocean?
River, lake and ocean. I like all of these! Rivers, because of the awesome nature and adventures they provide. Lakes, because jet skies and wake boarding are so much fun! Oceans, because they are so vast and mysterious, but so great and grand! The waves rolling in and the sand between your toes, there is no other feeling like that.

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Patience Pays
Growing up, I was not sure what my gift was. I loved sports and specifically, I fell in love with baseball. But after my freshman baseball season I stopped playing. I lost the love for playing for some reason. As a result, the rest of my time in high school was an awkward time for me and I often asked myself that dreaded question, "What's my purpose?" But I kept my head up and trusted in the Lord. Fast forward to today and I could not be more blessed! I am beginning my third year in the Army National Guard where I shoot Field Artillery (and it's a BLAST). I'm also starting my junior year in college, studying Economics. Additionally, I've been seeing my girlfriend, Megan, for two years and we are happily doing long distance while she attends Gonzaga University in Washington.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I'm essentially a ping pong prodigy. Central Young Life leader Brady Cameron and I have grown to master the ways of the paddle.

If you were stranded on an Island and could have 3 items, which items would you have to have?
I would actually take 2 people and just one item. The two people would be Steve carrell and Rainn Wilson. The item would be manual titled something like, "How to Get Yourself Out of a Stranded Island Situation". If I didn't survive, then I could say that I spent my last moments with two of my favorite actors from The Office! Basically, it's a win-win type of plan.

What has been your favorite thing about being in Young Life, so far?
Going to the schools of my Wyld Life kids and hearing, "What's up Brock?!" I've been to camp, late nights, and retreats with Young Life, and those are all such fantastic and fun experiences. But, nothing will compare to that feeling of getting the love back from the teens I invest int and seeing the fruits of my labor.

Shark diving, bungee jumping, or skydiving?
I would skydive to a beachside cliff that has a bungee. When I detach from the bungee, I embark a boat that takes me shark diving.

New Leader Alert!

Name: Tim Tremain
Position: Lafayette High School Young Life leader

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Have Hope
I have had a lot of tragic events happen in my life at a young age. I never knew how to handle it properly until I found God. He gave me hope, hope that everything will be ok in His plan.

What is one goal you would like to accomplish in your lifetime?
I want to climb a 14er : which is a 14,000 foot mountain. Being able to adventure is exciting.

If you could eat with anyone (past or present) who would it be and where would you go?
I would eat with Tony Gonzales. He was a Chiefs great and is actually one of the most humble guys that played in the NFL. Honestly, I'd be fine with eating anywhere. That experience would be awesome, but preferably Buffalo Wild Wings.

What has been your favorite thing about Young Life, so far?
Being able to meet many new people and build relationships along with serving at a camp and getting to see the smile on the kids faces.

Shark diving, bungee jumping, or skydiving?
Skydiving hands down. Even though all of that seems frightening as could be and I have a huge fear of heights, it still sounds like a lot of fun!

Position: Associate Area Director -- Central High School Young Life Leader/team leader

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Hope
I have been following Jesus for 10 years. Time after time people doubt His power and question His plan. I fall into that category, but I have found nothing more promising from my Lord and savior than His promise of a life lived to the full. The past 3 years of my life have been the most challenging and trivial years I have yet to experience. He gives me hope everyday that even though life is hard, I will be okay.

Lake, River or Ocean?
Ocean - more so the beach. Open water is terrifying to me!

What is one goal you wish to accomplish in your lifetime?
Sign language interpreter. My minor in college was Deaf Studies and the experiences I had in those short years was incredible. The culture and the language is so interesting and captivating.

What has been your favorite part about being a Young Life leader?
I love hanging out and having genuine relationships with my high school girls! They keep me young;) Also the community of Young Life, the Body of Christ I navigate through and with has been amazing. I not only have a community in St. Joe but have experienced true community as an intern at Young Life camps and while serving on assignments during the summer.

What is your favorite food?
Crinkle French fries and no I wont share.

If you could have lunch with anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?
My dad. He passed away three years ago and I miss him more and more every day. When I was in high school we frequented Macaroni Grill (when it was open). I cherish those memories of coloring our table and having father daughter time.

New Leader Alert!

Name: Scott Keegan
Position: Savannah High School Young Life Leader

What would be the title of your autobiography?
It will get better
I've had a lot of hard things hit me at a young age. The hope and belief that things would get better has always kept me going and is a belief I still carry with me everyday.

What is one goal you wish to accomplish?
I want to climb a mountain, any mountain really. It's just always something I've wanted to do and it'd be a sweet view at the top.

If you could eat lunch with anyone (past or present) who would it be and where would you go?
I would eat with Tim Tebow because growing up he was a big role model for me. I would eat with him anywhere they have stead and mashed potatoes.

What's been your favorite part of Young Life so far?
The great friendships that can be made through it. Also the experience of camp and watching other kids get to experience the awesomeness that is camp.

Shark diving, bungee jumping or skydiving?
Skydiving for sure because I have a fear of heights and I like the thrill of doing something that's scary to me. I'm actually planning on going skydiving this summer.
